Girl Meets Tweets: Special Set Visitor Edition

As you know, tonight was Girl Meets World's first live taping, and no, I wasn't there. I don't want to talk about it. But as you can see from these Tweets, Maitland Ward from Boy Meets World was there and posed for some pics with her former castmate Ben Savage, and new generation stars Corey Fogelmanis and Peyton Meyer. Much like Rider Strong, she visited during the pilot as well.

I don't hate Rachel, but she better not be living in the crawl space with Uncle Shawn.

5 Things You May Or May Not Know About Boy Meets World

You could know all of these things, or maybe just some of them. You might not know any of them. These are just five trivia facts about Boy Meets World that I thought was fun.

1. Willie Garson Had Three Different Roles On Boy Meets World

Actually, if you read this blog at all, you knew that because it is literally the first sentence I wrote in The Legend of Leonard Spinelli. Most people catch on that Alan's first season assistant manager was the minister that married Cory and Topanga in the final season, but many miss out on the fact that Willie Garson was also in season 4 episode "Janitor Dad." He played Mervyn, a customer and job applicant at Alan's new store.

2. Mena Suvari Had Two Different Roles.

Mena Suvari would become well-known by the end of the 90s for her roles in American Pie and American Beauty. Before that, however, she was a guest star on Boy Meets World. Twice. Ms. Suvari played Laura in the season 2 episode "Danger Boy" and Hilary in the season 3 episode "The Grass Is Always Greener." Funnily enough, in both episodes, her character had an unsuccessful attempt to be with Cory.

3. Cory and Topanga's First Kiss Was Also Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel's First Kiss

In the season 1 episode "Cory's Alternative Friends," Topanga decides to give Cory his first kiss while he thought he looked weird, then admitted it was her first kiss, too. In real life, it just happened to also be the first kiss of then 13-year-old Ben Savage and 11-year-old Danielle Fishel. For those of you who are somehow sad that Cory and Topanga aren't married in real life, you can still take some weird comfort in knowing they will always be each other's first.

4. Cory and Shawn's Relationship Wasn't Defined Until the Episode That Introduced Topanga

If I may, I'd like to quote a famous Disney song. "Like a bolt out of the blue, fate steps in and sees you through." Now, you Riley Meets World readers already know this, but originally, Cory was supposed to have a "gang" and in early episodes he and Shawn had a revolving door third friend. In "Cory's Alternative Friends," the third friend got fired, leading to two things: Shawn has a phantom sister named Stacey, and Shawn and Cory became Shawn and Cory. The episode was also Topanga's first. She wasn't supposed to be a regular character, but she proved so popular that they brought her back. Amazing how the planets all aligned in this episode.

5. Mr. Feeny's Geranium From the Final Episode Is the One Cory Gave Him In Season One

In the season 1 finale "I Dream Of Feeny," Cory gives Mr. Feeny a geranium that he plants in his garden and uses as a metaphor for Cory's growth. In the series finale, Feeny uses a geranium in his garden as a metaphor for Topanga's growth. It's the same geranium. I choose to see this as a metaphor for how Cory and Topanga's path was the same, which is why they were destined to be together, but that's just me.

Whether or not you know those five things before, you know them now. You're pretty prepared for battle if an impromptu Boy Meets World trivia war broke out.

Girl Meets World: Class Is In Session

In one of the interviews I'm too lazy to look up now, Ben Savage said that Riley is definitely Cory's daughter, but she got at least one trait from Topanga - if Cory had sat any further back in class, he would have been Shawn.

Interesting is that Maya sits next to her instead of behind her. In fact, the main characters are in a box formation instead of a line. Also, Feeny's lesson is in the back of the room: "Dream. Try. Do good."

I could not be any more excited for this series. You know, until the next pictures, and the next episode, and the press release...

Girl Meets World: I Will Love This Cast?

Exciting! And I will love this cast? It's time for a breakdown of awesome.

Ben Savage as Cory Matthews

I do believe I was introduced to Cory when I was 9 years old. I'm 30 now. I wouldn't exactly be excited for Girl Meets World if I hated his cootie carrying behind. Love status: love

Danielle Fishel as Topanga Matthews

I wanted to be Topanga Lawrence as a kid. No, I don't mean 16 year old me wanted to be an overachiever and a lawyer.  I mean 10 year old me learned to love my fro-y hair and started meditating to see if I could achieve nirvana and float. I'm a much more vapid and shallow shadow of that pre-teen, but Topanga taught me to always follow the beat of my own drum. Love status: tried to be her

Rowan Blanchard as Riley Matthews

I have a sickness. That sickness is I will watch anything Joel McHale is in because he's wildly talented and what if he takes his shirt off? So I may have seen Spy Kids 4. It doesn't matter how many times. I came for the McHale and stayed because of how amazing Rowan and Mason Cook were. I was also very supportive of Mockingbird Lane and NBC are fools for letting that slip out of their grasp. Disney has some intelligence. Love status: how can anyone born while I was in college be so talented?

Sabrina Carpenter as Maya Hart

Sabrina impressed me greatly this past summer. Like everyone else who has Netflix, I super got into Orange Is The New Black. Amazing show, I saw it three times in two months. One episode features the background of a character named Alex, and she had a very prominent tormentor in her childhood - Sabrina Carpenter. She played a pint-sized rich witch (blogs based on family shows should have family friendly language) so well, I'm really excited to see her play the opposite. Love status: amazing

August Maturo as Louis Matthews

I know August from Weeds. I didn't know I did until it was mentioned he was on Weeds, but then I remembered the character instantly. He is super adorable, which is a selling point for me because I rarely like little brother characters (Cory was simultaneously a big brother). It could be because I have two real life ones and TV really downplays how awful they are, but I digress. August is so sweet on Twitter that  despite loving my jerk brothers more than anything, if there was a brothers draft, I would have delayed my picks about 21 years to recruit August. Sorry Rich and Rob - I just can't imagine August making up stories just to see how much trouble I'd get in for the giggles. Love status: want him to give my brothers good brother lessons

Corey Fogelmanis as Shamus Farkel and Peyton Meyer as Tristan Friar

I don't know these boys that well. That's okay. I know they already have amazing chemistry with everyone else, and that's good enough for me. Love status: free pass

So I'm not going to love this cast because I already do. Girl Meets World is going to be amazing.

It's Time For Some Girl Meets World Tweets!

You know you love these.
I feel like that classroom looks like the season 2, 3, and 4 Boy Meets World classroom used by Turner and Feeny, but with a paint job. So I asked if it was. I will keep you posted.

That Mac and Cheese looks way more amazing than what comes in the blue box. I would be excited for those days, too, yum yum! (It is currently ramen day in Amanda's writing sphere. No add ins.)

The 90s never truly left us, as we can see in the flannel being sported by Rowan Blanchard and August Maturo.  I love Rowan's skirt, too. These two are too adorable, and they have style.

Who else is Team That's Totally The Same Classroom From Boy Meets World?

Aww! Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, Together Again

Aww!  Okay, yes, it's only their chairs, but they sit in them.  Plus, @AugustMaturo tweeted this earlier:

To be a fly on that wall!  I can't wait until they start filming in front of a live studio audience, and I definitely can't wait for Girl Meets World to premiere on Disney Channel!

What's More Real Than Cake or Cupcakes?

That Instagram link, y'all, is for the cover page of the Girl Meets World script.  I mean, okay, it doesn't give anything away except that Joel Zwick wrote it, it's Ben's script, and the episode is called "Girl Meets Boy."  But it's still more real than cake and cupcakes combined, and it's super exciting.  Yay!

Matthews Family Pictures!

How are we supposed to stand this wait?  Cory, Topanga, Riley, and Louis Matthews just look like the awesomest family.  They had the table read today - production soon and then actual episodes on the air!  It's all so close and yet so far away.

Ben Savage and Cory Matthews Are Pretty Much The Same

In this Buzzfeed article, Ben Savage talks about being Cory Matthews on Boy Meets World, returning to the role on Girl Meets World, how weird it is that Cory has kids, and where he thought Cory would be at this point in time.  There are some differences between Monsieur Savage and Señor Matthews, like their feelings on curly hair - spoiler alert, Ben Savage likes his.  I have a love hate relationship with my curls, so I'm somewhere in the middle of the Cory/Ben spectrum on that one.  I love them - until I remember maintaining them is work and out comes the straightening iron.

They even mention that Cory's kids are not named Chewbacca and Plankton.  You know, after the mention of Beverly Glen, I actually am kind of disappointed that the kids aren't named like, Beverly Glen and West Pasadena.  Fits so nicely with Topanga's own name (for you non-Californians, and people who never read interviews, she was named after Topanga Canyon).

I really like where Ben thinks Cory would have been at this point in his life.  Like, I can see it.  That's so Cory.  The whole article is a fun read, so you should check it out.

Cory and Topanga Forever, Y'all

Yesterday, November 5 - yes, the same day the complete series came out on DVD - was the 14th anniversary of Cory and Topanga Matthews, who got married way back in 1999.  How super sweet is it that they spent it together?  I love how close these two are in real life, and how even if they marry other people, they'll always be husband and wife.  They'll always be Cory and Topanga.  Again, I think of the Boy Meets World characters as the kids I went to high school with because I was close in age to the characters and often going through the same stuff in real life - I even started sixth grade at a new middle school the year they started seventh grade at a new high school - so I'm really happy that Cory and Topanga made it.  They say high school romances never last, but, you know, I always had a feeling about those two crazy kids.

Here's to another fourteen years!  And then fourteen more.

Oh My Gosh, The Cute... It Kills

Click that link in the tweet.  You do it.  You will not regret it.  It's like gelling that Cory Matthews, the Cory Matthews I grew up with, is a dad.  I am starting to accept it.  And how cute are Ben Savage and August Maturo?  August Maturo is going to steal the hearts of a generation, man.  He's so cute and sweet - you know who else was once super cute and sweet?  Matthew Lawrence.  And oh my gosh, you thought I loved Shawn Hunter...

I'm digressing.  This is so super exciting!  It's really, really happening you guys!

Ben Savage Talks Boy Meets World, Girl Meets World, and Saying Goodbye to Childhood

Everyone else is talking about growing up on Boy Meets World, so why not the Boy himself? Ben Savage did an interview with Parade where he discusses growing as one of the iconic Savage brothers, Boy Meets World, and of course, Girl Meets World. I don't pick favorite interviews, usually, but this one is up there. Go read it.

Just the Matthews Hanging Out...

That Instagram link in the second tweet?  Totally a video.  How cute are the kids and Ben Savage?  Seriously, those who are still skeptics of how great Girl Meets World can be, look at how much of a family they already are!  I cannot wait for the show to come out!

Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel Open Up About Mr. Feeny

In an exclusive Zap2It video, Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel open up on what a great teacher Mr. Feeny was.  Savage talks about Feeny's lessons and how they impacted him, and Danielle Fishel praises William Daniels' portrayal of the beloved teacher.  The video can be found here.

As you know, William Daniels reprised his role of Mr. Feeny in the Girl Meets World pilot shot earlier this year, but with Teo Halm out as Riley's older brother, it's easy to wonder if Feeny will make an appearance in the series.  Hopefully they will only re-shoot the appropriate parts and we can get in at least one more lesson before Cory becomes the teacher a generation looks up to.
