Boy Meets World: Feeny and Eric Matthews, Underrated Bromance?

Came across the article "12 Reasons Eric & Mr. Feeny Had the Most Underrated Bromance on Boy Meets World", and my first reaction was, "do they?" I don't argue they had a bromance, but underrated? Okay, let's take a look at this.

Boy Meets World Codified the Bromance

Name me a pre-90s bromance? You got, like, Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble, the guys from 48 Hours, and maybe the original three Ghostbusters. Men just weren't close to other men pre-90s. It was an affront to manliness. However, Boy Meets World is a show with a mostly male cast built on relationships. Characters were in multiple bromances. Cory and Shawn. Eric and Feeny. Eric and Jack. Harley and Frankie. Frankie and Joey. Frankie and everybody, really. Shawn and Turner. You get the idea.

"Underrated" Means Not Getting the Attention It Deserves

By that same token, would Shawn and Cory's bromance be overrated? It didn't really get more attention than it deserved; the Boy of the show was Cory. Everything revolved around him - considering that, Feeny and Eric got a lot of screentime. They actually run the danger of being overrated instead of under.

It's One of the First Five Things You Think of When Boy Meets World Is Mentioned

Fun activity. Take out a piece of paper, or however you take notes, number it 1 - 5, and write down what Boy Meets World makes you think of. Here's mine:

1. Cory and Shawn
2. Cory and Topanga
3. Eric and Feeny
4. Shawn and Turner
5. Leonard Spinelli

I've been watching season one, but see how high Feeny and Eric ranked for me? It's the first non-Cory relationship. Chances are, you ranked it highly, too.

In conclusion, Mr. Feeny and Eric don't have an underrated bromance. They have a lovely one that gets exactly as much attention as it deserves.
